Frequently Asked Questions

What image formats can I compress?

JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, GIF, and TIFF.

Will compressing my image reduce its quality?

The High quality preset never resizes the image — it only re-encodes it and strips hidden metadata, so nothing visible changes. Recommended balances size and quality for everyday use, and Extreme trades more visible quality for the smallest possible file. Whichever setting you pick, the tool never hands back a file larger than what you uploaded.

How does "Custom target size" work?

Enter a target size in KB and the compressor tries a series of progressively more aggressive quality and scale settings until the result fits under that size, stopping at the gentlest setting that gets there.

What file format will my compressed image be in?

JPEGs stay JPEG and WEBP images without transparency stay WEBP. Images with real transparency are kept as PNG so the transparency isn't lost. Everything else (PNG without transparency, BMP, GIF, TIFF) is converted to JPEG, since it compresses far better for photographic content.

Is it safe to compress images online with CurePDF?

Yes, and for most images nothing is uploaded at all — compression runs inside your browser. If an image is too large for your browser to handle, CurePDF asks before sending it to our servers, where it is processed in memory and not stored. We don't review, share, or reuse your image contents.

Is the image compressor free, and is there a size limit?

Yes, it's completely free with no sign-up required. Size limits depend on your plan tier — see the tool page for the current limit on your account.
